"Obelisk" is a piece composed for oboe and percussion that allows both the percussionist and oboist a wide variety of artistic freedom and interpretation. The music in the first two movements somewhat resemble obelisks as there are many runs in the melody that lead to a sharp point and immediately come right back down where they started (similar to the shape of an obelisk). In the last movement, the composer uses non-standard music notation to create a framework for the musicians, while allowing them to show off their skills and abilities in this creative contemporary composition.

The music is very modern with some non-standard notation. Some of the hardware necessary to play the percussion part includes timpani, gong, glockenspiel, chimes, crotales, vibraphone, xylophone, wind chimes, tree cymbals, and bass drum.
